High-impact glass fiber/carbon fiber hybrid composite materials to build the first generation of snowmobiles for the Beijing Winter Olympics

     The Tokyo Olympics has just come to an end, and the Beijing Winter Olympics is already beckoning to us. The domestically-made snowmobile developed by the Institute of Aerospace Materials and Technology under the First Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation is expected to appear on the field to help Chinese Olympic athletes compete for medals.

     To this end, the Institute of Aerospace Materials and Technology has established a special working group. With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Winter Sports Center of the State Sports General Administration, a research and development project of "Key Technologies for High-Performance Carbon Fiber Composite Materials for Winter Projects" has been established.

     Researchers have broken through a series of key technologies such as low wind resistance and high reliability integrated design of shape and structure, high impact carbon/glass hybrid composite material, and integrated high-quality molding of complex wing body fusion structure, and finally completed the first domestic double snow car. Design of vehicle principle prototype, development of special material system, product development and manufacturing.

     At present, the first-generation snowmobile has undergone a phased review by the national team. The second-generation snowmobile is scheduled to be delivered to the Chinese national snowmobile team before September 15, 2021, to conduct track trials and simultaneously enter the competition equipment certification process. Strive to be officially used in the winter game on February 4, 2022.
